ROOT CANAL AFTER CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Your endodontic treatment has been completed. If a temporary restoration was used to fill the endodontic access, you will need to follow up with your restorative dentist within 4 weeks for the permanent restoration. Failure to do so, could result in contamination of the treatment and need for further endodontic treatment.
If you need a final restoration and/or crown to complete treatment, please call your restorative dentist within the next few days to schedule that appointment. Our office will send them your “Endodontic Treatment Letter” that includes all the treatment that was completed along with your radiographs from the appointment.
If extraction has been recommended due to an “incomplete root canal” or a “crack or fracture”, please follow up with your dentist right away to schedule extraction.
The tooth may be tender for a few days to a few weeks. Take medications as prescribed. For post-op discomfort, over-the-counter medications are recommended, such as 2 tabs (200mg each) of Ibuprofen (Advil) and 1-2 tabs (500mg each) of Extra Strength Tylenol (Acetaminophen) taken together every 4-6 hours. Do not go over each medications daily recommended limit described on medication bottle.
Do not use the tooth for chewing until all the tenderness is gone. Until your restorative dentist completes treatment, it is recommended that you try and avoid using the tooth as much as possible. Breakage of the temporary filling or the tooth may occur.
If swelling occurs, pain increases, or if pain persists, please contact our office promptly at
